Contents: Learning Objectives: As the digital transformation progresses, the global landscape and the corresponding industrial environment are undergoing fundamental changes. Industrial companies face significant socio-technical challenges in shaping and implementing this dual transformation in a digital, holistic, practical, sustainable, and economically viable manner.In this lecture, students will learn:• Fundamentals of industrial engineering: Understanding the economic design of modern work and production systems, as well as the technologies used in Industry 4.0 and 5.0, including their opportunities and challenges.• Types of industrial companies: Understanding fundamental industrial business and process types to derive targeted measures.• The contemporary industrial environment: Understanding changes in the business and work environment (e.g., BANI).• Management Approaches: Application of various management approaches to achieve digital and circular production.• Maturity Assessment: Determining a company’s maturity level, deriving requirements, and identifying potential for digital and sustainability transformation.• Holistic Planning and Implementation: Holistic and cost-effective planning and implementation of transformation in industrial companies, including necessary steps, methods, and guidelines.• Upskilling and Reskilling: Developing strategies for continuous learning and targeted skills development to adapt organizations to new technologies and processes.• Case Studies: Opportunity to delve into real-world industrial case studies to identify, plan, and implement success-oriented measures within an industrial company. Content: ORGANIZATION:• Fundamentals of Industrial Engineering: Structure and history of industrial companies in a global context.• Status Quo Analysis: Analysis of current work and production systems.• Strategic Planning: Aligning digital and sustainability targets with business strategy.• Process Optimization: Optimizing business processes for efficiency and sustainability.• Project Management: Application of traditional and agile methods for transformation projects. TECHNOLOGY:• Digital Transformation: Impact on the workplace and the future of work.• Digital Tools and Systems: Implementation of AI, IoT, and intelligent systems.• Data Analysis: Use of data for informed decision-making.• Implementing Digital Transformation: Steps toward the implementation of Industry 4.0 and 5.0.• Sustainability and the Circular Economy: Integrating sustainability into industrial transformation.PEOPLE:• Upskilling and Reskilling: Targeted learning and adaptive skill development.• Change management: Involving employees in the transformation process.• Leadership: Developing executives who can drive digital and sustainable transformation.Organizational:• Mandatory attendance at the introductory session and intensive lecture block (one full week).• Lecture slides and a reading list are available for download on ILIAS.• The lecture requires 120 hours of work (= 4 ECTS credits).• Exam format: Oral examination (approx. 20 minutes).
